Lean Forum -> Supply Chain -> Scheduling in a Job Shop

This Lean Forums post might be of interest to those that are interested in Job Shop Scheduling.

The original questions says:

I work in a job shop and the challenge we are having is consistently meeting customer on time delivery of 7 main customers through our current scheduling method. Currently how we determine which jobs to run first is based on the priority of the customer which means being a month or so late on lower priority customers. we also use the batch production method. I’m working to change things to be more Lean but am new to Lean Production Metods. As a company we want to be able to make any part for any customer and deliver it on time. We machine parts in quantities of one to several hundred. The current bottle neck area is on our mill machines as we have more lathes than mills. What specifically are the steps we should be focussing on in order to improve our on time delivery to all customers?
